Assembly Machine

Yorkshire based Datek Systems approached Fullform to assist them in the development of an automated assembly machine to build and test an electronic airbag module for the automotive industry.

Developed in conjunction with a global car manufacturer, this automated assembly testing system produces 2 million quality-assured plastic airbag modules each year. Fullform engineered the entire assembly using 3D CAD software, and produced a suite of technical drawings to BS8888 for final manufacture.

The automated machine uses 16 individual stations located around a central indexing dial plate to assemble, test and inspect two types of airbag module component parts. Laser and proximity sensors are used to precisely monitor the system, ensuring quality and preventing damage to the external surfaces of the module.
